BEVERLY HILLS, May 23, (THEWILL) – English Premier League side Arsenal have fired their Under-23 coach Steve Bould in a move that brings Bould’s 30-year association with the north London outfit to an end.
In that period, the 58-year-old held various coaching positions at Arsenal since retiring from his active playing days in 2000, when he hung his defensive boots.
The confirmation will come by way of an official announcement from the club but Bould will depart from the Emirates in the coming days with no information as to where he may be headed, for now.
As a manager of Arsenal’s Under-18 team, Bould won the Premier Academy League titles in 2009 and 2010 as well as the FA Youth Cup in the 2008/09 season before taking up the role of Assistant to former first team manager, Arsene Wenger, in 2012.
He served in that capacity for seven years until 2019 when he was charged with the managerial responsibility of Arsenal’s U23s. Under his watch, regular first team superstars like the starlets Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe, who were instrumental to Arsenal’s manageable season, emerged and formed the nucleus of Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The manager, who played as a defender in the Gunners team for 11 years, won three league titles, two FA Cups and the Cup Winners’ Cup and is a embodiment of the Arsenal system. He was relieved of his duties as part of a significant restructure behind the scenes at the Emirates.
