Arsenal Open EPL Season With 2-0 Defeat Of Crystal Palace


August 6, (THEWILL) – Arsenal won 2-0 away against Crystal Palace on Friday night to kick off the 2022/2023 English Premier League campaign in impressive form.

Both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who moved to north London from Manchester City made their competitive team debuts for Mikel Arteta’s squad with Jesus standing out and Zinchenko contributing the assist for the game’s first goal that will give the Gunners’ fans a lot of hope for the rest of the season.

The first goal was scored from close range by Gabriel Martinelli with Zinchenko’s header from a corner kick providing the chance. Late in the game, Arsenal added a second when Bukayo Saka’s cross was unfortunately deflected by Marc Guehi into his own goal.

Aaron Ramsdale had handled his job between the sticks for Arsenal creditably to prevent goals from Palace in both halves and he was also helped by the Arsenal backline that defended staunchly to secure Mikel Arteta and his side their first three points of the new season.

The Gunners will look to improve on that when they host Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City next weekend. On the other hand, Palace manager Patrick Vieira can learn from this game in certain ways, although Palace will have to wait 10 days before their match against Liverpool.
