BEVERLY HILLS, June 26, (THEWILL) – As the Nigeria Bar Association prepares to elect a new president next month, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, one of the notable senior advocates in the country and a part of the old guard, has said the NBA President is exclusively for senior lawyers who have attained the rank of Senior Advocate on Nigeria, SAN, warning that “a powerful and potent revolutionary move by our junior colleagues who are very large in numbers” could wrestle the office of the NBA President from the rank of SAN.
THEWILL reports that the election has pitched the establishment in the association against a surging rightwing made up of young equally successful lawyers who are pushing for a reform of the bar and its restoration to lost glory.
In a letter to the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, BOSAN, obtained by THEWILL Friday, Awomolo, urges the body to do all within its powers to ensure that the NBA President remains amongst the rank of SANs, warning that “It will be a great failure of leadership for the Senior Advocate to surrender leadership to outer Bar when there are willing and able Senior Advocates.”
