July 16, (THEWILL) – Southampton new midfielder, Joe Aribo, made his debut for Southampton, although the English Premier League club lost 3-1 to RB Leipzig as the Saints’ preseason training in Austria got underway.
Aribo recently moved to Southampton from Scottish side Glasgow Rangers, but he was immediately thrown right into the action by Ralph Hasenhüttl. Both sides missed opportunities to take the lead and went into halftime with the game tied 0-0.
In the second half, RB Leipzig broke the deadlock just ten minutes in as Angelino produced a spectacular goal for the Germans. Hasenhüttl then decided to make some changes and give other players a chance to get some preseason minutes under their belts. One of the substitutions included taking Aribo off for Che Adams.
The substitutions were immediately impactful as Southampton equalised in the 65th minute. But, Leipzig came back effectively, scoring twice through Emil Forsberg and Ilaix Moriba to secure a 3-1 victory.
Southampton’s next game is on Monday against Austria Klagenfurt in Austria.
