July 04, (THEWILL) – Gunmen on Sunday shot dead a policeman on escort duty and a driver at Airport Junction in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
The police escort was reportedly attached to an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in the state, Chief Michael Johnny.
Sources claimed his wife was target of the attack, which occurred at about 11:12am.
She was reportedly said to be attending a church service when the assailants struck.
Sources claimed the hoodlums operated in a yellow Lexus SUV.
“The police escort was shot in the head, while the driver was shot in the belly”, a tricycle rider said.
THEWILL gathered that the assailants did not take away anything from their victims, not even their service rifles
The Divisional Police Officer of Enerhen Division was at the crime scene where he recovered the service rifle of the deceased Policeman.
Acting spokesman of the Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
He said, “A policeman and a driver were killed. That’s the information for now.”
DSP Edafe, however, doused speculations the woman was kidnapped.
