Another Police Station Attacked By Gunmen In Akwa Ibom, 3 Cops Injured

July 05, (THEWILL) – Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Sunday morning hit Udung Uko Local Government Divisional Police Headquarters in Akwa Ibom State, leaving three officers seriously injured.

According to sources, the police officers who were on duty sustained serious injuries resulting from heavy gunshots fired by the attackers numbering about five.

The source, who prefers to remain anonymous, said: “The gunmen shot sporadically at the Police Divisional Headquarters Udung Uko but the gallant officers on duty tried to repel the attack.

“Three policemen sustained serious degrees of injury resulting from the gunshots.”

He however expressed fears that the àrea was no longer safe, urging that the attention of the authorities should be drawn to prevent future occurrence .

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, the assailants came in a Toyota Sienna vehicle and opened fire at the station.

He said that no life was lost as the gallant policemen on duty repelled the attack.

He confirmed that three policemen sustained gunshot wounds from the attack and are receiving treatment in an undisclosed medical facility.
