… Andy Obtains Court order Barring PDP, INEC From Recognising Tony Nwoye As Party’s Guber Candidate

SAN FRANCISCO, August 28, (THEWILL) – The governorship candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State and serving senator, Mr. Andy Uba, his brother, Chris Uba, the Chairman of the faction, Chief Ejike Oguebego, Chief Benji Udeozor and Tonia Nwankwu Thursday shunned the party’s directive to appear before the National Working Committee (NWC) today to explain why they shouldn’t be sanctioned for conducting a parallel primary in the state last Saturday.

THEWILL can also report that Senator Andy Uba has obtained a court order barring the PDP and the electoral commission from recognizing Tony Nwoye, the candidate that emerged at the other primary conducted on the same day in Anambra State.

A Federal High Court Port Harcourt, Rivers State, presided over by Justice H.A. Nganjiwa, ordered that the result of the primary conducted by the Ejike Oguebego-led executive, where Uba emerged as the candidate, should be upheld by the PDP and electoral commission, pending the hearing and determination of the suit filed by Uba, Oguebego, the state secretary of the PDP, Chief Gilbergt Okoye, and the Legal Adviser, Chuks Okoye on behalf of themselves and the State Executive Committee of the PDP.

The PDP had on Tuesday described the primary conducted by the Ejike Oguebego led faction as illegal and again declared the Kenneth Emeakayi faction where Nwoye emerged, as the authentic leadership of the party in the state.

The national headquarters thereafter summoned the Ubas and three others to a disciplinary hearing.

The full text of the Tuesday statement reads, “Illegal Conduct of Governorship Primary in Anambra State

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) hereby condemns in the strongest possible terms the organization of a parallel primary election to elect a candidate for the November 16, 2013 governorship election in Anambra state other than the one conducted by the Party on August 24, 2013.

For the avoidance of doubt, the only Governorship Primary election recognized by the Party was the Primary election conducted by the Electoral Panel under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema which was appointed by the Party.

The organization of another Primary election other than the one referred to above is a clear breach of our party’s constitution and is therefore totally unacceptable and cannot be condoned. We call on the Inspector General of Police to forthwith commence investigations into the illegal procurement of sensitive party materials for the illegal governorship primary election by persons who paraded themselves as working for the PDP.

In view of their participation in the breach of our constitution referred to above, the following persons are hereby invited to appear before the National Working Committee for a preliminary hearing at the PDP National Secretariat, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 10 am prompt to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against them.

They are:
1. Senator Andy Ubah
2. Chief Chris Ubah
3. Ejike Oguebego
4. Chief Benji Udeozor
5. Mrs. Tonia Nwankwu.

Signed:

Barr. Tony Caesar Okeke
Acting National Publicity Secretary.”
