June 15, (THEWILL) – Tobi Amusan finished ahead of her competition in the 100m hurdles race at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold on Tuesday in Finland as she gets in shape for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, USA, next month.

The 25-year-old ran a season-best time of 12.57s to beat Jamaica’s Britany Anderson time of 12.59s while Netherlands’ Nadine Visser came in third with a time of 12.72s. It was the final of the Continental Tour Gold event at Paavo Nurmi Stadium in Turku, Finland, before the World Athletics Championships kicks off.

Amusan needed to be at her best to claim the number one spot after her heroics at the Senior African Athletics Championships in Mauritius, when she successfully defended her 100m hurdles championship and also helped Team Nigeria win gold in the 4x100m relay.

Although the Nigerian sprint athlete narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the previous World Championships, Amusan will look to make amends in Oregon when the July meet begins.
