Alonso’s Move To Barca Still On The Cards

Azpilicueta, Alonso

August 5, (THEWILL) – Barcelona and Chelsea are still in negotiations over a deal to sign left-back, Marcos Alonso, and there is increased optimism that a deal can be achieved soonest.

Alonso and fellow defender, Cesar Azpilicueta, were both in the final year of their contracts and had been targets for the Catalan giants, but the latter put an end to rumours on Thursday, by agreeing to a new two-year contract to remain at Stamford Bridge.

While Alonso has reportedly made it plain that he wants to move to Barcelona, Azpilicueta has always been open to staying at Chelsea. In contrast to Azpilicueta, manager, Thomas Tuchel, is willing to approve of his departure as well.

Barcelona intensified their chase of Alonso since missing out on the Chelsea captain, and insiders have stated that the Blaugrana are certain a deal will soon be done. All that is left to negotiate now that personal terms have been agreed upon, with Chelsea eager to raise money after reaching a record deal to sign Brighton defender, Marc Cucurella, is the transfer fee.

Barcelona has mentioned a few of their own players in the negotiations with Chelsea in an effort to entice a bid from the London club, with midfielder Frenkie de Jong still being pushed toward Stamford Bridge after negotiations with Manchester United stalled.
