August 25, (THEWILL) – Dele Alli has officially left Everton for Besiktas on loan, with the Turkish team holding the option to permanently buy the England international.
Alli was one of manager Frank Lampard’s first signings and he only joined the Toffees from Tottenham in January on a two-and-a-half-year deal. Alli made 11 appearances for Everton last season while they avoided Premier League relegation, making just one start.
So far this season, Alli has made two appearances, both coming off the bench. The 26-year-old will try to restart his career with Besiktas after being an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park last weekend.
For the length of Alli’s loan in Istanbul, Everton will cover a percentage of his salary.
Alli will aim to resume regular football play, although his prospects of making Gareth Southgate’s England team for the Qatar 2022 World Cup are certainly over now that he has moved abroad.
