BEVERLY HILLS, December 01, (THEWILL) – Alisson Becker, the goalkeeper for Premier League champions Liverpool, has sustained a hamstring injury and will be out for up to two weeks. This was confirmed by club manager Jurgen Klopp on Tuesday.
The Brazilian was not included in the Liverpool squad for their UEFA Champions League tie against Ajax on Tuesday, with Caoimhin Kelleher starting in goal instead.
“It is not Covid,” Klopp responded, in his pre-match interview, when asked why Alisson was not in the Liverpool side.
“That is something we have to mention when it is not the case and it is not the case. He told us after the game [against Brighton] he felt his hamstring in the 60th or 70th minute.
“A little one but enough for today and probably for another week, we will have to wait and see. I have never heard of a hamstring that is only four or five days so it will be 10 to 14 days, I think.”
The injury to the 28-year-old impressive goalie only adds to Klopp’s long list of players sidelined by injuries especially at the back line.
Defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joseph Gomez, midfielders Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remain unavailable, along with midfielder James Milner, who suffered a hamstring injury also against Brighton on Saturday.
Talismanic defender Virgil van Dijk and midfielder Thiago Alcantara are already down with long-term injuries.
