January 09, (THEWILL) – Versatile Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold tested positive for COVID-19 and was not included in the Reds’ FA Cup third-round match against Shrewsbury Town.
COVID-19 has wreaked havoc on the Merseyside club, with their Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal being postponed earlier this week due to an outbreak of positive cases in the Premier League side.
Alexander-Arnold is the most recent member of the squad to test positive, with Liverpool stating that he will miss the game against Shrewsbury because he “registered a suspected positive COVID test shortly after (the game against) Chelsea.”
He is anticipated to return to training in the following days, according to the club.
Liverpool did get some good news ahead of their FA Cup match, with manager Jurgen Klopp cleared to return to the dugout after a positive COVID-19 test that kept him out of the 2-2 draw against Chelsea last Sunday.
Joel Matip and Roberto Firmino were also recalled to the squad after missing the game against Chelsea owing to also testing positive for COVID-19.
Goalkeeper Alisson, who had a positive case of the illness and missed last weekend, was unable to make a comeback in time.
