Akpabio Names Nwaoboshi, Mutu, Manager, Other Lawmakers As NDDC Contractors

BEVERLY HILLS, July 27, (THEWILL) – The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has finally matched his pledge to name members of the National Assembly, who are beneficiaries of contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission, which has emerged as the latest cesspool of corruption in the country.

On the list is Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, the indicted senator representing Delta North, who is also Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, with 53 projects, while the former Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on the NDDC, Mr Nicholas Mutu, who represents the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency of Delta State, got 74 projects, including various emergency road projects in Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Rivers states.

Both Nwaoboshi and Mutu are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for various graft and money laundering related offences in an unrelated matter.

Some of the projects listed against Nwaoboshi include emergency repairs of Asue Street, Owa Phase 2; ldumuogbe Road via Ojemaye; Otolokpo College Road, Otolokpo; and the Police lshu Ani Ukwu Road, Issele Uku.

Other lawmakers that Akpabio named include Senator Matthew Urhoghide (Edo-South) with 6 projects; James Manager (Delta-South), 6 projects; Samuel Anyanwu (Imo-West, 8th Senate) 19 projects and others simply identified as Ondo and Edo Reps.

Akpabio during a hearing last week at the House of Representatives, alleged that some members of the National Assembly had received contracts from the NDDC, suggesting that the jobs had been fully paid for, yet remained uncompleted.
