July 24, (THEWILL) – Air Peace on Saturday said that its Boeing 737-500 aircraft with the registration number BQR had a minimal tyre burst at Ilorin International Airport on Friday morning while taxiing.
But the Accident Investigation Bureau-Nigeria (AIB-N), which also confirmed the incident, said that the aircraft had a tyre burst on landing at the airport.
A statement on Saturday by the spokesman of the airline, Stanley Olisa, said that none of its aircraft suffered a crash, stressing that the aircraft in question landed safely at Ilorin Airport.
According to him, immediately after the incident, the airline’s management reported to the appropriate authorities, stressing that the aircraft had since returned to flight services.
The statement added: ”Our aircraft neither crashed nor crash-landed in Ilorin or in any place for that matter. This kind of sensationalism is bad and was intended to cause panic in the minds of the flying public.
”It was duly reported to the authorities and passengers disembarked seamlessly. The tyres have, however, been fixed and the aircraft is intact. We condemn the sensational publication of falsehood.”
The statement reiterated the commitment of the airline to providing peaceful connectivity across cities and relentlessly observes the highest standards of safety in its operations.
Confirming the development, the General Manager, AIB-N, Tunji Oketunbi, in a statement said the aircraft had a tyre burst on landing at the airport.
According to AIB-N, its investigators did an evaluation of the occurrence and decided not to investigate the incident.
He added: ”The Aeroplane has been released to the operator (Air Peace). The delay in opening the airport is down to the recovery of the aeroplane from the runway by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and Air Peace. The aeroplane had a burst tyre on landing.”
