A’Ibom Abducted Senator Remains Incommunicado

September 07, (THEWILL) – The whereabouts of kidnapped former Akwa Ibom legislator, Senator Nelson Efiong, remain unknown, 48 hours after news of his kidnap broke.

THEWILL reports that this is the second time the Senator has been kidnapped after hoodlums abducted him during his time as the speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. He was, however, let go after paying N21m as ransom.

No group has claimed responsibility for the abduction of the APC chieftain, nor have the abductors contacted his grief-stricken family. It is also not certain if his abduction has anything to do with the simmering political crisis in the state’s chapter of the party.

A source who confided in THEWILL expressed suspicion that he might have remained incommunicado because he was abducted without his phones.

“I understand that, there is no link between the family and the kidnappers forty-eight hours after the Senator’s kidnap, because they whisked him away without his phones,” the source stated.

Meanwhile, one of the victims of the attack (names withheld), who sustained bullet injuries and is receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital, has had the bullets removed and is responding well to treatment.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom Police Command says it has intensified the manhunt for the kidnappers to rescue the politician.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko MacDon, the Command has extended its nets to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.

He said, “Akwa Ibom State Police Command has received a report of the kidnap of the immediate past Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Nelson Efiong.

“The Command has received that information. And the CP has ordered an investigation into the matter. I believe that in no distant time we will get more information on it. But as I speak, we have received that report and we are working to ensure he can be rescued.

“The CP Amiengheme Andrew has upon receipt of the information about the senator’s abduction ordered immediate discreet investigation to ensure his rescue.”
