March 14, (THEWILL) – The national electricity grid has again collapsed, leading to power outages across the country.
The grid, operated from Osogbo, Osun State, by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), failed at about 10.45am on Monday, sending the eleven distribution companies which supply the 36 and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) out of supply.
Eko Electricity Distribution Company in a notice to its customers, regretted the inconvenience the shutdown will cause them.
The development has shut in about 600 megaWatts from Africa’s largest power plant in Egbin, Lagos.
As at the time of filing in this report, multiple sources across the distribution companies said the grid was being restored gradually, but some of them were yet to pick up energy load.
The electricity situation in the country has been in its worst moment since the past months as generation capacity dropped to 2,000 megawatts with about 14 power plants shutting down.
