BEVERLY HILLS, June 06, (THEWILL) – The Cross River State Government has warned arsonists against attempting to do damage to the University of Cross River (UNICROSS).

The warning, the government says, followed intelligence reports that arsonists were set to burn down the institution.

The crisis in the institution began when a graduating student, Nkasi Moses, was stabbed to death by phone thieves when he attempted to recover a stolen phone.

His death led to a crisis in the institution, which resulted in the shutting down of the school by the state government

The government, through Alfred Mboto, Permanent Secretary, Special Services, had threatened to deal with those behind the conspiracy,.

Mboto alleged the planners were non-indigenes, but that they would face the consequences of their actions.

Mboto in a statement said, “This is to inform the general public that the Cross River State Government is aware of the ongoing plan by hoodlums and some students who are non-indigenes of the state in the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) to carry out destructions in the university.

“Meanwhile, those suspected to be involved in the recent killing in the university have been identified and arrested.

“It was discovered during interrogations that the suspects were neither indigenes of the state nor students of UNICROSS.

“The institution has been closed for now, so no student is expected to be in the campus. Any student that stays back is doing so at his or her own risk.

“Cross Riverians are hereby, urged to stand up and defend the Institution from being destroyed by these non-indigenes as was the case during the #EndSARS protest.

“His Excellency, the State Governor has directed all Security Agencies in the State to go after the perpetrators of the said act and ongoing plan.

“And anyone caught will face the full wrath of the law and commensurate consequences for their actions.

“The General Public is advised to desist from carrying out this evil plan as there would be no hiding place for anyone found culpable.”
