… Serves Governor, Deputy Notices
SAN FRANCISCO, June 18, (THEWILL) – Adamawa State Governor, Mr. Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Mr. Bala Ngilari have been served impeachment notices by the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
The Assembly at Wednesday’s session initiated the process to remove the embattled governor and his deputy over allegations of financial misconduct amongst others.
Recall that Nyako, his deputy alongside the Governors of Kano, Rivers, Sokoto, and Kwara were all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) until they dumped the party last year for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Majority of the Adamawa Assembly also flirted with the idea but jettisoned it at the last minute following pressures from the leadership of the party in the state and Abuja.
The 25-member House of Assembly is 100 percent PDP following the defection of three members of the APC to the PDP in May.
The members are Mr. Wafarninyi Theman of Hong Constituency, Mr. Simon Issa of Song Constituency and Alhaji Abubakar Jarengol of Mubi North Constituency.
The leadership of the Assembly has accused Nyako of financial impropriety amongst other charges. They also complained of being starved of funds by the Governor.
Efforts by the Kano State Governor, Mr. Rabiu Kwankwaso to broker a peace deal between Nyako and the lawmakers about two weeks ago failed.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force Wednesday closed the Yola International Airport to air traffic on orders from the Presidency, according to reports from Yola, the Adamawa State capital.
The sudden closure of the airport was orchestrated to keep Nyako in Yola to enable the Clerk of the Assembly serve him the notice of impeachment. Nyako had earlier ordered a chartered luxury plane that was on standby to fly him to Abuja.
Nyako, according to sources, departed Yola for Abuja by road following the closure of the airport.
