A Linesman Claims He Was Told To Favour Real In The Next El Clasico

Spanish police are investigating claims by a linesman that he was told to favour Real Madrid against Barcelona next month.

The next instalment of El Clasico, Spanish football’s biggest match, is at the Bernabeu on November 21 but controversy already surrounds the match.

The identities of the match officials are being kept secret but it is understood a linesman told lawyer Jacinto Vicente he was instructed to favour Real by a member of the referees’ committee, Jose Angel Jimenez Munoz de Morales.

Vicente then instructed the linesman to go to the police with the allegations.

De Morales has denied the claims and said: “I don’t know where it comes from. This is Kafkaesque, not to say more.”

Barcelona currently lead Real Madrid by one point at the top of La Liga after nine matches of the season.
