It’s Lupita season all over again.

BEVERLY HILLS, December 18, (THEWILL) – The Kenyan actress who plays the role of Maz Kanata an alien character in the just released movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been all over the place recently; from one magazine cover to another and of course making huge fashion statements on red carpets to promote the new movie.

Her latest feature is in The Guardian, where she puts her gorgeous dark skin to work against bold coloured backgrounds and outfits.

In the accompanying story, Lupita talks about her role in the award-winning 12 Years A Slave that changed her life forever, her parents thoughts about the movie, and moving from Kenya to US. She said, “America has infiltrated all of us with its swag. It took coming to America to make me realise the ways in which I was not American. It made me realise how much of myself and where I’m from I had neglected. That’s one of the reasons I took African studies while I was an undergraduate, because I realised I wanted to know a little more about who I was, aside from all that other stuff I had absorbed – not only from America, but from Britain. I grew up in a former British colony. So, coming to America, I realised it was the African influence I needed to familiarise myself with.”

She also talked about playing an alien in the new Star Wars movie, being a national hero back home in Kenya among other things. Read the full story here
