BEVERLY HILLS, October 28, (THEWILL) – The Stephen Keshi National U-17 football tournament will kick off for its third edition from Tuesday, December 1 to Saturday, December 5, 2020 in the ancient city of Benin, Edo State.

This was made public in a statement released by the Board of Trustees of the Stephen Keshi Football and Vocational Training Center (SKFVTC), Obazuwa.

The Annual youth tournament, which comes after the Stephen Keshi Annual Memorial lecture, promises to bring together more than 40 Youth Football teams from across Nigeria to Edo State.

The tournament is organised by the SKFVTC under the auspices of Nigeria Players Union, National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers, NANPF, to immortalise and preserve the legacies and contributions of late Stephen Keshi to the overall development of football in Africa both as a player and as a coach.

The inaugural edition of the tournament which was held in 2018 was also in Benin, Edo State. In its second hosting the following year, the tournament was expanded to include two age categories, Under 17 and 21 and took place in Asaba, Delta State.

The 2020 edition is now ready to go with the lifting of restrictions on sporting activities occasioned by the novel coronavirus pandemic. However, due to time constraints, organisers have packaged this year’s edition to capture only the under 17.

The competition is to mark the fourth-anniversary ceremony of late Stephen Keshi, former national team captain and coach of the Super Eagles who died in Benin on the 7th of June 2016 after an illustrious career representing his country.
