3 Men Arrested For Beating Man Who Stole iPhone To Death In Ogun

October 21, (THEWILL) – Police in Ogun State have arrested three persons for allegedly beating one Tunji George to death over an allegation of stealing iPhone 6 at an hotel in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the State.

The suspects: Felix Sunday, Shomuye Musa and Oluwatobi Michael were arrested on Wednesday, October, 20, 2021.

They were arrested following a report by one Bola George at Onipanu Divisional Headquarters that her brother was alleged to have stolen a phone and beaten to death by the three suspects

She explained that the trio tied the 22-year-old victim whom they suspected to have stolen the iPhone with a rope at an hotel in Iyana Iyesi area of Ota, before torturing him to death.

While torturing the victim, the suspects having realized that he was about giving up the ghost, quickly rushed him to an hospital, but before getting there the victim had giving up the ghost

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said that upon the report, the DPO Onipanu division, CSP Bamidele Job, mobilized his men and moved to the scene, where two of the suspects were apprehended, while the remaining one was arrested at the hotel where the victim was murdered.

“On interrogation, the suspects informed the police that they strongly suspected the deceased as the person who stole the iPhone 6, and in order to recover the said phone from him, they decided to torture him not knowing that it will result to his death.” the PPRO said

He added that the corpse of the victim has been deposited at the general hospital mortuary Ota for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

The CP also warned that the command under his leadership will not tolerate any form of jungle justice and whoever engages in such an act, no matter his status or position will not be spared from punishment under the law.
