September 22, (THEWILL) – Due to a fresh injury recently sustained, Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will not play in next Tuesday’s friendly match between the Super Eagles and the Desert Foxes.

On Thursday morning, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) made this information public via its Twitter account without disclosing the exact nature of the player’s injury.

In the post, through its official Twitter handle (@thenff), it revealed: “Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is injured and out of the game against Algeria. He has left the team’s camp and returned to England. Get well soon Wilfred.”

The latest episode of Ndidi’s injury is indeed worrisome as it comes after the midfielder was getting back to fitness from two previous bouts of injuries. In March this year, he was sidelined for the rest of the 2021/2022 season as a result of a tackle on Rennes’ Gaetan Laborde in the UEFA Europa Conference League last-16, second leg tie on March 17, which they lost 2-1.

The surgery he underwent meant Leicester had to struggle without him for the remainder of the season. Just as things began to improve in July, Foxes’ manager Brendan Rodgers revealed that he had picked up an new ankle injury in training in Evian. He only returned to action recently but will now be sidelined again, which will be problematic for his place in the club as they struggle this season.
