186 Insurgents Killed – Army Reveals In Status Report, Mourns Three Soldiers

BEVERLY HILLS, February 14, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army has said that the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency has been largely won based on the morale of the troops involved in Operation Lafiya Dole.

Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Rogers Nicholas stated this on Wednesday in a press briefing on the successes recorded so far.

According to a slide by the military, the operation that also involves aerial bombardment support from the Nigerian Air Force indicated the Boko Haram casualty since December.

In the offensive against the terrorists, the troops were able to kill 186 terrorists and recovered 49 gun trucks, 14, AK-47 rifles, 19 Hilux vehicles, 13 pick-up vehicles, 14 Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs).

Others include 4 Toyota Buffalo, 3 water tankers, 3 canter trucks, 3 yellow bucket trucks among generator plants, cash, fertilizers, cylinders among several others.

According to the Army General, troops have occupied the heart of Camp Zairo, in the Sambisa forest in Borno State in further clearance operations.

“Currently as I speak, our troops are at the heart of Camp Zairo and its environs. We are combing every inch of the Camp Zairo, carrying out clearance operations to ensure that every member of the Boko Haram in the forest is rooted out,” he revealed.

“Sadly, in this joint operation, we have lost three gallant soldiers. Three were wounded during the operation and have been evacuated by the Air Task Force and are responding to treatment.”
