January 27,(THEWILL) – Newcastle United have agreed to sign Anthony Gordon from Everton for an initial £40 million fee.
The 21-year-old winger is expected to join Eddie Howe’s side, who are currently in third place in the English Premier League. He broke through at Everton after spending five years in their academy, making his Premier League debut in 2020 before spending five months on loan at Preston North End in 2021.
Gordon played a key role in keeping Everton up last season, making 40 appearances in all competitions. He has struggled for form this campaign, missing three days of training this week and only starting in one of Everton’s last eight matches.
Frank Lampard, who was sacked as Everton manager on Monday, had only started Gordon in one of Everton’s last eight matches and the winger failed to make it off the bench in the 2-0 defeat by West Ham United on Saturday.
Newcastle face Southampton in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening, leading 1-0 after the first leg. On the other hand, Everton do not play until February 4 when they host Arsenal in the Premier League.
