NAHCO Handled Flights Shutdown As Qatar Airways Returns To Base

January 23, (THEWILL) – There was pandemonium on Monday morning following a sudden strike action allegedly embarked on by workers of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) Plc at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to airport sources, the industrial action may not be unconnected to a misunderstanding between one of the affiliates of aviation labour unions under NAHCO and the management.

NAHCO provides ground handling (cargo/ ramp), passenger services and other services to several major international and local airline clients in the aviation industry.

Some of the airlines it offers its services include but are not limited to United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Air France/KLM, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways and Turkish Airline. Others are, Ethiopia Airlines, Kenya Airways, Rwand Air, ASKY, Air Maroc, Egypt Air, as well as Air Peace, Aero Contractors, Dana, Max Air and Azman.

However, THEWILL gathered that the Qatar flight that landed on Monday morning had returned to Doha as there was no ground handling workers to handle the flight.

Already, passengers are going haywire but they have been kept outside the terminal by security agents to avoid crisis.

It is not ruled out that other airlines the ground handler handles may face the same challenge Qatar faced if the situation is not nipped in the bud.

Efforts made to reach NAHCO in the early hours of Monday morning proved abortive.
