November 07, (THEWILL) – Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has warned of serious turbulence within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose warned that the crisis rocking the party might get messier within the next few days or weeks if it is not resolved.

In a tweet on Sunday, the former governor warned that the impending turbulence might be more serious than ever.

“I see more serious turbulence for the PDP, more than ever before. I have been silent all this while, hoping that things will get better.

“I advise we do more than we are doing now to resolve this crisis, as events in days/weeks ahead may likely get messier. I pray this advice is not ignored”, the tweets read.

PDP has been in crisis since former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, emerged as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election..

Fayose contested the PDP presidential primary in May alongside others but lost to former Vice-President Abubakar.

Fayose had said a Southerner must emerge as President in 2023. He, however, shifted his position in September, when he said despite his support for Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, he would work for the party’s presidential candidate (Atiku) in the 2023 general elections.

Since he lost the PDP presidential ticket to Atiku at the party’s primary in May, Wike has for months demanded the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, insisting northerners cannot occupy both the Presidency and the party’s chairmanship seat.

Wike and his allies including Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), have boycotted campaign rallies of the PDP presidential candidate.
