December 29, (THEWILL) – In their first game back in Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to defeat Strasbourg 2-1, thanks to a late penalty from Kylian Mbappe, that rescued a 10-man Les Parisiens side.

At Parc des Princes, the league leaders appeared destined for a draw after captain Marquinhos scored an own goal to cancel out his opening goal. It seemed even more certain to end 1-1 with Neymar’s dismissal after receiving two yellow cards in quick succession.

But, just over a week after scoring a hat-trick in France’s loss to Argentina in the World Cup final, Mbappe’s 96th-minute penalty kick insured that his team did not lose ground for the third time this year.

It was a huge relief for Christophe Galtier’s team, who had been struggling to turn their early domination into a more comfortable outcome without Qatar 2022 winner, Lionel Messi, in the matchday squad.

While Strasbourg will be home to host Troyes on Monday, PSG is on the road to Lens on New Year’s Day for a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday.
