Marcus Rashford Receives MBE Award From Prince William At Investiture Ceremony

November 09, (THEWILL) – Marcus Rashford, Manchester United forward, has been awarded an MBE by Prince William for his advocacy work. After a high-profile battle to push the government to change policy on free school meal vouchers during lockdown, Rashford was awarded the honour for services to vulnerable children.

The MBE, which is the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, is a British order of chivalry that rewards contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outs. It was awarded to the footballer because many youngsters were able to eat during the holidays as a result of the striker’s campaigns.

The 24-year-old dedicated the MBE to his mother and promised to continue his campaign’s efforts, saying that his aim was to provide children what he lacked as a child. The striker revealed he would be delivering his MBE to his mother Melanie Rashford, who accompanied him to the investiture event at Windsor Castle.

He said: “It seems like there’s a lot going on but for me to put it in the simplest way – I’m trying to give children the things I didn’t have when I was kid. If I did have, I would have been much better off and had many more options in my life.

“I’m just giving them the opportunity and I think they deserve the opportunity, what child doesn’t. For me it’s a punishment for them not to be getting things like meals or supplies of books.

“And if we can all come together to make these small changes, they are small changes but they become big changes once you see the rewards of it – I see a generation that’s coming after me as a very special generation. They just need a bit of guidance and pointing in the right direction and what I’m doing is giving them that.”

Rashford also made history this year by becoming the youngest individual to reach the top of the Sunday Times Giving List, raising £20 million for his campaign.
