January 23, (THEWILL) – Manchester United has announced plans to revamp the Stretford End at Old Trafford stadium.
The club has been working closely with its Fans’ Advisory Board in recent years to improve the matchday experience for supporters and has already implemented two suggestions from fans: the installation of rail seating and the creation of a dedicated atmosphere section in the Stretford End.
Now, United has confirmed that further discussions with the Fans’ Advisory Board have resulted in an agreement to replace the executive seating area in the Stretford End with general admission season tickets. This move is aimed at increasing the overall atmosphere at the stadium, as more general admission seating is believed to be beneficial to that cause.
Rick McGagh, the head of fan engagement at Old Trafford, said that the Stretford End is one of the most iconic stands in football and that the fans have long campaigned for the removal of executive seats from the area. The club is committed to working with affected executive club members to find alternative seating before the start of the 2024/25 season.
United’s COO, Collette Roche, added that structural work will take place over the coming year to return the Stretford End to general admission seating and create a new concourse and that the club will consult fans to understand how best to repurpose the space currently used by the International Suite.
