December 08, (THEWILL) – Steve McNally, a longtime Manchester United club doctor, who joined the team in 2006 and worked there for 16 years, has announced his departure from Old Trafford.
Under six different long-term first-team managers and a few caretakers, including Sir Alex Ferguson, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and the present Erik ten Hag, McNally has led the club’s sports medicine department.
In a statement, United said: “Under his leadership, the club has been at the forefront of innovation in sports medicine and science. We are enormously grateful to Steve and wish him every success in his new role.”
McNally leaves to join the PGMOL, the organisation that oversees match officials in professional football in England, as its Performance Support Director. Until a permanent appointment is announced, Jim Moxon, a former Liverpool club physician, will oversee sports medicine at United.
John Murtough, United’s Director of Football, said: I’d like to thank Steve for everything he has done for our players, colleagues and the wider club. We will continue to benefit from his legacy through the first-class medical and sports science infrastructure and team he has built.”
