December 28, (THEWILL) – In their first Premier League match, following the World Cup break, Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday, with Marcus Rashford serving as the spark.
The 25-year-old was once again United’s standout performer, as they closed the gap on fourth-placed Tottenham to one point, just as he was in the EFL Cup victory over Burnley last week.
With a goal right off the training field, the England attacker gave a dominant United the early lead before assisting Anthony Martial to double the advantage for the Red Devils.
Just before halftime, Forest had a goal reversed, but this was not a sign that United would face more pressure, as Erik ten Hag’s charges coasted to a late third through substitute Fred to condemn Forest to a sixth consecutive barren run away from home.
On Saturday, United are on the road to face Wolverhampton Wanderers and the following day, it will be another cracker for Forest when they welcome Graham Potter’s Chelsea the City Ground in Nottingham.
