November 12, (THEWILL) – Harry Maguire has revealed that he has “no regrets” about the incident in Mykonos in the summer of 2020, which resulted in him spending two nights in jail and receiving a 21-month suspended sentence after being found guilty of several alleged offences.
At a hearing in a Greek court, Maguire was charged with assaulting a police officer, refusing arrest, and attempted bribery during an altercation outside of a club.
According to his version of events, two individuals had injected his younger sister with an unknown substance. He claims that while seeking assistance, he ended up at a local police station where he was beaten on the legs by individuals he did not think were legitimate police personnel.
Maguire attempted to escape as well, thinking it had was a kidnapping attempt. He was found guilty by a Greek court, albeit an appeal that also overturned the initial verdict for the time being will be considered at a new trial in June 2023.
Speaking about the case, Maguire said: “Some people will believe me; some people won’t. But one thing I would say about Mykonos is that I have no regrets. I don’t worry about what the outcome is going to be. I don’t worry about anything to do with it because my conscience is so clear about what happened that night.”
