October 21, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi has revealed that Romelu Lukaku will likely make his return from injury in the UEFA Champions League matchup against Viktoria Plzen.
After returning to Italy on a season-long loan from Chelsea, Lukaku was anticipated to be a key player in another attempt at the Scudetto which he helped Inter clinch with the 24 goals he notched during that campaign.
However, a thigh injury has kept the Belgium striker out of action since August, and his recovery has taken longer than expected.
Inzaghi is eager to have Lukaku back, but he will not play against Fiorentina in Serie A on Saturday as Inter attempts to advance to the Champions League round of 16 the following week with his help.
Inter trailed rival Milan by just two points at the end of the Scudetto race last year, but they are already eight points behind Napoli, who are currently at the top of the Serie A standings.
