July 09, (THEWILL) – A long-term contract has been given to Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott after the 18-year-old impressed the club management last season in his loan move to Blackburn Rovers.

The young player joined the Reds from Fulham in 2019 and demonstrated his qualities in the limited opportunities he had to play at Anfield before being loaned to Blackburn.

The first team experience and regular play time he was able to amass while at Blackburn allowed the player to grow in the estimation of the Reds. Elliott turned out to be one of the best players in the Championship last season and managed seven goals and 11 assists in the campaign.

To reward his efforts, the Anfield club extended his contract, which was due to expire in 2023 with a new long-term deal, which he has agreed to.

After signing, Elliott told the spoke with the Liverpool website where he expressed his emotions about the deal: “It’s always going to be there throughout the years I’m here [the special feeling of playing for Liverpool]. Hopefully it’s going to be a long time.

“There’s always going to be those butterflies whenever you put on the shirt, whenever you go out to train and play, whenever you’re involved in the club there’s always that feeling.

“Especially for me, being a Red, as well as my family – it’s nice to make them proud and make myself proud. But the hard work carries on.

“It’s always a nice feeling when you sign a new contract – especially for your boyhood club. It’s all done and dusted now so I’ve just got to focus on pre-season, get my work in and make sure I’m ready for the season.”

The teenager will return to Anfield and seek to secure a first-team place next season in the Liverpool squad. To his credit, Elliott was named in the pre-season training squad. It will offer him the chance to impress Jurgen Klopp while the likes of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota take time off from the exertions of the Euros Harvey Elliott
