September 10, (THEWILL) – A medical incident in the stands caused Saturday’s game between Cadiz and Barcelona to stretch beyond normal time but, Robert Lewandowski continued his stellar start to life in La Liga and assisted in securing a 4-0 victory for the visitors.
Frenkie de Jong’s first goal of the season gave Barcelona the lead in Andalusia, before Lewandowski was introduced by Xavi and he ensured that the Catalan side were able to return home with a comfortable victory.
No player has scored as many goals in their first five games in Spain’s top division in the 21st century as Lewandowski, who scored his sixth La Liga goal in his fifth appearance in the competition, seven minutes after replacing Pablo Gavira.
Barca’s straightforward victory, however, was overshadowed in the closing minutes when play was stopped and the players were removed from the field due to a medical emergency in the stands.
After a 40-minute intermission, the game eventually resumed, and Lewandowski set up Ansu Fati, for their third, and Ousmane Dembele, for their fourth, as Barca finished off a rout to move atop La Liga with four victories out of five.
On Tuesday, Barca will take to the UEFA Champions League to go against Lewandowski’s old side, Bayern Munich, and four days later they will welcome Elche to Camp Nou in La Liga. On Friday, Cadiz take on Real Valladolid in their next League tie.
