October 21, (THEWILL) – Barcelona put the El Clasico loss behind them on Thursday as they defeated Villarreal 3-0 at Camp Nou with an incredible brace from Robert Lewandowski and Ansu Fati.
As THEWILL reported, Barca suffered their first loss of the 2022/2023 season to arch-rivals Real Madrid on Sunday, but they recovered fast as Villarreal were easily defeated by the defending champions.
The Yellow Submarine was completely outclassed by three goals in a seven-minute span early in the first half. Lewandowski scored two outstanding goals before Fati made sure the game was effectively over before halftime.
Villarreal never made a comeback attempt as Xavi Hernandez’s team relieved the pressure that had begun to mount following a stretch of just one victory in four games across competitions in Spain and in Europe.
On Sunday, Villarreal will host Almeria, just as Barcelona welcome back ex-manager, Ernesto Valverde, who is once again in charge of Athletic Bilbao.
