September 17, (THEWILL) – A brace from Robert Lewandowski and a Memphis Depay goal saw Barcelona roll to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Elche at Camp Nou to take the summit in La Liga.
After just 14 minutes, Elche’s captain Gonzalo Verdu was dismissed, and Xavi’s team led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Lewandowski and Depay.
After the break, Lewandowski scored again to give him a total of 11 goals in all competitions since his transfer from Bayern Munich as he helped Barca to a comfortable victory.
With the win, Barca maintained their unbeaten start to the domestic campaign and climbed to the top ahead of Sunday’s Madrid derby.
After the international break, Xavi’s team will visit Mallorca while Elche will play Rayo Vallecano on October 3.
