January 14, (THEWILL) – At least ten persons have been confirmed dead, while two sustained different degrees of injuries in an early morning fatal crash at the Oniworo area, some few meters after Foursquare church on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway

A statement by the Superintendent Route Commander and Public Education Officer for Ogun Sector Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, said 19 persons were involved in the crash.

She added that two vehicles were involved – a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KLD539XA and a Mack container truck with no registration number on it.

“The suspected causes of the crash were road obstruction on the part of the truck and excessive speed on the Toyota bus, which led to loss of control and ran into the truck at the rear.

“The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at the Ipara morgue,” she said.

The FRSC Ogun Sector Commander, CC Ahmed Umar, however, commiserated with the family of the crash victims, while advising motorists to always adhere to simple traffic rules.

He also emphasised on poor visibility due to harmattan and advised motorists to put on the headlamp when the weather is poor.

Umar cautioned motorists, especially truck drivers on non-display of caution signs whenever there is a breakdown on the road.
