Klinsmann Claims Iran’s Coach Queiroz Took His Comments Wrongly

November 28, (THEWILL) – After Carlos Queiroz called Jurgen Klinsmann a “disgrace to football”, the German coach has responded by saying he wants to “calm things down” with the Iranian coach.

Klinsmann was a member of the BBC Sports broadcast crew and on Friday as Queiroz’s team defeated Wales 2-0. He accused Iran of deliberate gamesmanship, saying: “That’s their culture, that’s their way of doing it and that’s why Carlos Quieroz, he fits really well.

“It’s not coincidence, it’s just part of their culture. They worked the referee, you saw the bench all jumping up… they’re constantly in your face on the field. This is their culture. They make you lose your focus and concentration.”

On Saturday, Queiroz responded strongly, writing a lengthy statement on social media in which he branded Klinsmann’s comments “outrageous” and demanded that he resign from his position as a participant in FIFA’s Qatar Technical Study Group.

In response to Queiroz’s comments, Klinsmann asserts that his views were misunderstood. At the BBC Breakfast programme, he said: “He took it completely wrong. What I described was the emotional impact they have from the bench; the players jumping off, constantly talking to everyone on the sidelines. He took it the wrong way. He thought I was criticising them, which was not the case at all. It’s no problem at all, it’s already over.”
