Kibet, Guta Win 8th Access Bank Lagos Marathon

February 04, (THEWILL) – Kenyan runner, Elkanah Kibet, has emerged victorious at the 8th Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which held on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Kibet, who also holds an American citizenship, won the race with a time of 2:14:00 and received the $50,000 prize money. Kibet overtook former race leader and record holder, David Bamasai, at the 26km mark and ultimately claimed the 2023 Lagos City Marathon title.

In the women’s category, Alemenseh Guta of Ethiopia was the first to cross the finish line, followed by Kebene Urisa in second place and Kenya’s Naomi Maiyo in third place.

The marathon began at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos and ended at the Eko Atlantic City. The first Nigerian to reach the finish line clocked in at an impressive time of 2:14:06.

The Lagos City Marathon continues to be a showcase of athletic prowess and a celebration of the city’s vibrant culture and spirit.
