BEVERLY HILLS, February 25, (THEWILL) – Niger State’s Governor Abubakar Bello on Thursday said that the state does not “feel any Federal (Government) presence” in its efforts to rescue the 27 abducted students and 15 staffers and families of Government Science College in the Kagara area of the state.

Bello made this known while receiving the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, who was in the state to commiserate with him on the abduction.

The governor said, “At the moment, we do not feel any Federal presence here. The Inspector-General of Police sent us four mobile units but we are to shoulder the financial responsibilities. So, where is the support? There is no support from anyone.”

“Yes, we had a delegation that came to visit and commiserate with us but that was all. So, we are left to ourselves.”

He, however, said the state had promised the parents of the students and staff that they would all return safely.

“We have already made a commitment that we will bring back the children safely with or without anyone,” the governor added.

The students and staff of Government Science College Kagara, were kidnapped when bandits stormed the school on February 17, 2021. A student was also reportedly killed by the bandits during the attack.

The Federal Government had sent a delegation including the Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi (retd.); and the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (retd); to Minna, the Niger State capital, to work with the state government and security agencies on the release of the abductees.

Seven officers of the Nigerian Air Force scheduled to conduct surveillance missions over Niger to secure the release of the Kagara abductees died last Sunday when their plane crashed in Abuja.

The rescue operations of the abductees have since suffered a drawback with the Kagara abductees still in captivity eight days after they were kidnapped.
