November 21, (THEWILL) – Last night’s 4-0 win over Arsenal at Anfield showed Liverpool’s dominance but goal-scorer Diogo Jota collided with Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the 58th minute, which was the only blemish from the performance for the Reds.
The striker lunged for a ball that he had played just a touch too far ahead of him, but he could not reach it before the goalkeeper. Both players appeared to be hurt, but Jota appeared to be the one who took the fullest brunt of the blow.
After receiving treatment, the 24-year-old was able to play for another 15 minutes, but Jürgen Klopp acknowledged that the Portuguese forward is battling with a knee problem that will need to be evaluated.
“The situation is not easy and Diogo went off and he got a proper knock against his knee. They went knee to knee I think and we have to see how quickly that develops, in the right direction hopefully. Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. It would be very important.”
The fact that he continued to play after the accident suggests that the injury is not too serious, although it would not be surprising if Jota missed a few games.
Any injury that is more serious than a minor ailment may be highly concerning for the Reds, as it would leave Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, and Takumi Minamino as the only senior forwards available with UEFA Champions League and domestic EPL games coming thick and fast
