June 24, (THEWILL) – Arsenal and Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement for Gabriel Jesus to join Mikel Arteta’s Gunners for £45 million.
Jesus was Arsenal’s top choice for a striker during the current transfer window and while London rivals Chelsea and Tottenham have also expressed interest in him, it appears Arsenal are on the brink of getting him, as the 25-year-old Brazilian international will become Arsenal’s fourth acquisition of the summer after Marquinhos, Matt Turner, and Fabio Vieira.
However, some aspects of the deal still need to be finalised before Jesus can complete the move. The forward, who arrived in the Etihad club in 2016, had one more year to go in his contract. Arsenal will be getting a striker that tallied 58 goals and 32 assists in 159 Premier League games played at the Etihad Stadium.
Between 2016 and 2019, Arteta worked with the forward while serving as Pep Guardiola’s assistant. Jesus will be sacrificing not playing in the UEFA Champions League for at least one season if he moves to Arsenal, who have qualified for the Europa League. They begin their 2022/2023 EPL season on August 5, with a trip to face ex-player, Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.
