January 18, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan retained their Supercoppa Italiana crown with a convincing 3-0 victory over rivals Milan at King Fahd International Stadium, on Wednesday.

Simone Inzaghi’s side took an early lead with a goal from Federico Dimarco, in the 10th minute, which was allowed to stand following a VAR check and the use of semi-automatic offside technology for the first time in Italian football.

Edin Dzeko added a second goal in the 21st minute, putting Inter in command. Two goals inside the opening 25 minutes of the Supercoppa Italiana match was a feat not seen since Roma against Inter in 2006.

After sitting back for most of the second half, Inter added some gloss to the scoreline when Fikayo Tomori, failed to clear a long ball allowing Lautaro Martinez to score.

This marks Inter’s seventh Supercoppa triumph, drawing them level with Milan. The team’s recent form since the World Cup break proved to be decisive in the match, and Inter can now add the Supercoppa Italiana to their Coppa Italia win last season.
