Injury Worry For Chelsea As Broja Is Stretchered Off In 1-0 Loss To Aston Villa

December 11, (THEWILL) – Armando Broja was taken away on a stretcher on Sunday, after appearing to sustain a major knee injury during Chelsea’s friendly match against Aston Villa in Abu Dhabi.

Since his return from a one-season loan at Southampton, Broja has taken on a more significant role at Chelsea. He has made 18 appearances this season and scored his first Blues goal in their English Premier League victory over Wolves in October.

Graham Potter wanted his Chelsea team to be fully prepared for the return to action in the EPL later this month and picked the Albanian international to lead the line against Villa. However, after colliding with Ezri Konsa, early on and falling awkwardly while appearing to catch his studs on the ground, Broja had to be helped off the field while clutching his left knee.

The young Chelsea team lost 1-0 to Unai Emery’s team with John McGinn, breaking the deadlock with the only goal of the match after seven minutes.

On December 27, Chelsea will face Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge, to resume their EPL season. Before the break for the Qatar World Cup, the Blues had fallen to seventh place in the standings due to a dismal stretch after impressing early in Graham Potter’s time at Stamford Bridge.
