BEVERLY HILLS, April 08, (THEWILL) – Gunmen on Tuesday abducted the traditional ruler of Umuezie community in Nguru in Aboh Mbaise Council Area of Imo State, Eze Charles Iroegbu, and seven members of his cabinet.
THEWILL learnt that the monarch, alongside his cabinet members, was abducted while returning from a traditional wedding ceremony at Ihitte-Uboma Council Area of the state.
Coming a few days after gunmen attacked and burnt the state police headquarters and the prisons in Owerri, Imo State’s capital, this latest incident reportedly took place at the popular Seven-and-Half Junction in the Obowo area of the state.
A member of the town union, who pleaded not to be named, confirmed the incident, saying that the monarch and cabinet members were abducted by gangsters while coming from a traditional wedding.
The traditional ruler, who is the Chief Executive Officer of All States Mass Transit, was on the way home when he ran into the gunmen who came in three vehicles.
“His Highness and his cabinet chiefs were heading back home from a traditional wedding ceremony in Mbano that they attended when they were kidnapped. They came in three vehicles, as we speak, nobody knows where they have taken them to,” the source said.
When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu (SP), said he was yet to receive details about the incident.
