December 01, (THEWILL) – Pele, who was admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital late Tuesday, is now said to be in a “stable condition” and “fully in control of vital functions.”

The 82-year-old was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital with swelling all over his body and heart problems. He is currently receiving treatment for metastatic cancer. It was also stated that Pele’s chemotherapy was no longer effective and that following his admission, he was experiencing mental confusion.

The three-time World Cup champion did not require admission to an intensive care unit (ICU), according to a hospital update.

A statement from the hospital read: “After medical evaluation, the patient was taken to a common room, without the need for hospitalisation in a semi-intensive unit or ICU. The former player is in full control of vital function and [in a] stable clinical condition.”

Pele’s hospital stay has no set duration, and his wife, Marcia Aoki and caregiver, are beside his bedside. But, his daughter, Kely Nascimento, said on Tuesday, that there was no need for concern and that her father’s hospital admittance was neither a surprise nor an emergency.
