January 29, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of 21-year-old forward Anthony Gordon from Everton.
The Magpies were linked with Gordon since the start of the January transfer window and, after a few days of absence from Everton training, Gordon finally put his name to a long-term deal with Newcastle on Sunday.
Gordon was unequivocal about his decision saying: “Since I heard of the interest, I was always convinced Newcastle was for me. I think the fan base and the city really suits me as a person, the way the team are playing under the gaffer at the minute really suits me, and the club just look like they’re heading in the right direction.”
While Everton battles to avoid relegation, Newcastle is in contention for the English Premier League title and a UEFA Champions League qualification berth. The arrival of Gordon will bolster manager Eddie Howe’s attacking options for the second half of the season.
Gordon started his career at Goodison Park, making his Premier League debut in 2020, and is eager to show what he is capable of at his new club.
