Gasperini Praises Congerton’s Role In Lookman’s Success At Atalanta

January 23, (THEWILL) – Atalanta manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, has lauded the efforts of the club’s Head of Senior Recruitment, Lee Congerton, for his role in bringing Ademola Lookman to the team.

Congerton, who previously served as chief scout at Leicester City, had worked with Lookman during the player’s loan spell with the Foxes from RB Leipzig. In March of this year, Congerton joined Atalanta and soon after successfully convinced Lookman to make the move to Italy on a permanent basis.

Since his arrival, Lookman has proven to be a valuable addition to the squad, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances across all competitions. Notably, 11 of those goals have come in the Italian Serie A, making him the league’s second highest goal-scorer behind Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

One of his standout performances came over the weekend, where he netted a brace and assisted another goal in a 3-3 draw against Juventus.

Gasperini has acknowledged that while he has received a lot of credit for the team’s success, Congerton also deserves recognition for his role in bringing in not only Lookman, but also Rasmus Højlund, another key summer signing for Atalanta. The 19-year-old Højlund, who cost €17m, has contributed with five goals in 16 appearances.
